England's World Cup rot set in BEFORE the World Cup began with Fabio Capello smashing a glass tray in fury during the final warm-up match.

MirrorFootball can reveal the extent to which the Italian blew his top during one of his legendary rants to which the players have become accustomed.

It occurred at half-time during the 3-0 win over the Platinum All-Stars in Mouleng last month in final days of the build-up to the tournament..

England led 1-0, but All-Stars had missed a penalty and angry Capello threw a glass tray to the ground which shattered on impact and screamed at his players: “I hope you’re all enjoying your holiday!”

Capello, furious at what he perceived to be a lack of effort from his millionaire stars then walked out of the dressing room.

The hairdryer treatment for the entire side, which had also come in friendlies against Mexico and Japan, illustrates the lengths to which Capello had struggled to get the players to reach the levels expected of them.

Ex-England skipper John Terry revealed afterwards that he had never see Capello so incensed.

It also, however, highlighted the extent to which players had been scared of making even the smallest mistake, for fear of sparking Capello’s temper.

Star striker Wayne Rooney has even branded Capello ‘scary’ and said of one training session: “He blew up after about three seconds and physically moved a player from one position to another saying ‘that’s where you should be’.

“He records everything. He even called in Glen Johnson to have a look at the tapes because he wasn’t happy with one of his throw-ins..."

The FA declined to comment last night.
