Wayne Rooney has begged Fabio Capello to let him play as a lone striker in England's crunch clash against Slovenia tomorrow.

Out-of-sorts Rooney is desperate to recapture his form after poor performances against the USA and Algeria.

And the England centre-forward has told Capello he feels playing in the same system as he does at Manchester United will benefit him.

Capello tried 4-5-1 in training yesterday and admitted he would be making changes.

He said: “Upson will play and I will change some other players.”
