United States captain Carlos Bocanegra praised his players for limiting the threat of Wayne Rooney during their 1-1 World Cup draw with England in Rustenburg.

Rooney was restricted to only a couple of opportunities throughout the 90 minutes as the USA centre-backs Oguchi Onyewu and Jay DeMerit concentrated on denying him space and the chance to run.

Former Fulham defender Bocanegra, who now plays for Rennes, said: "Oguchi had a great game and was a strong presence in the middle for us. I thought he and Jay had fantastic games and shut down Wayne Rooney most of the time."
