Landon Donovan last night turned up the pressure on England by claiming the USA can now win Group C.
LA Galaxy midfielder Donovan believes the USA can now take confidence from their draw against England and go on to beat Algeria and Slovenia.
That could leave England facing a nervy qualification campaign if they end up as runners-up and get a tougher path in the knock-out stages.
Donovan said: “We are really happy because we have battled for a point against a team that some regard as a one of the tournament favourites. It’s nice for us to get off on the right foot. Now we can look forward to Slovenia.
“That was a really big team effort and nothing less will do against a really big team like England. We showed a lot of character after going down to a goal like that so early. That was a good test and it was nice to see our team stand up to it.
“Our celebration at the end was a little muted a guess because we wanted to keep things in perspective. We were really pleased, but we weren’t overjoyed so we didn’t want to do anything ridiculous.”
