Wayne Rooney was last night warned he is facing another World Cup red card after a foul mouthed flare-up.

Referee Jeff Selogilwe booked Rooney for saying “f*** you” to the official during the second half of England’s final warm-up match.

Rooney later apologised and gave the official his shirt to say sorry for his outburst but Selogilwe says the England striker is heading for trouble unless he controls his temper.

Selogilwe said: “Rooney insulted me, he said: ‘F*** you.’ He is a good player when you see him on the TV, but when you see him on the pitch, he just keeps on insulting the referees.

“To me it looks like Rooney insults people and fouls other players. If he insults a referee like me, then he will use that vulgar language to other referees as well.

“He must learn to control his temper. He could get sent off in the World Cup, especially if he uses this kind of language.

“Maybe the England players undermined this game and thought: ‘this is just a friendly, we can do what we like and the referees are not that professional.’

“I was very disappointed in Rooney because he is my favourite player. He is still my favourite player. He apologised to me and gave me the shirt he was wearing.”

Rooney's last World Cup ended in red card shame when he was sent off for stamping on Ricardo Carvalho during England's quarter-final defeat to Portugal in 2006.

The Manchester United star lost his temper during a verbal flare-up with ex-Spurs player Mbulelo Mabizela during the match, which was organised for charity and where every ticket was free.

Platinum Stars defender Mabizela had more bad luck later in the game as he was taken to nearby Ferncrest Hospital with a suspected fracture of his leg.
