Fabio Capello will today have crunch talks on his England future.
Football Association chiefs are confident they will persuade him to stay after a hasty reshuffle yesterday following the resignation two weeks ago of Lord Triesman.
Inter Milan have made Capello their No.1 target to replace Jose Mourinho and are ready to DOUBLE his current £4.5million a year salary with the FA.
But Dave Richards, chairman of the FA’s Club England, will meet Capello today and the Italian last night hinted he will stay. He is ready to remove a get-out clause from his contract but wants assurances.
Capello, whose current deal expires in 2012, said: “I’m happy. I signed a contract with Brian Barwick. I changed it with Lord Triesman. Now I have to speak with the new chairman, but I think I will be staying here.
“I’m England manager and I’m happy here.”
Inter president Massimo Moratti isn’t giving up. He said: “I’m pleased to learn he can disentangle himself after the World Cup.”
