Fantasy Football: who are the unfancied players who will score big at the World Cup?

With a new tournament, comes new teams and new faces. A classic Fantasy Football error is to select players based on reputation. If you do this you're missing out on all the new talent.

Enablers: (L-R) Per Mertesacker, Luis Suarez and Yoan Gourcuff could provide fantasy football managers with points

Who are the unheralded players who will slip under the radar and provide Telegraph Fantasy Football World Cup managers with plenty of points at this year's finals?

Luis Suarez (Uruguay - £5.9m): the Ajax captain has been nothing short of a revelation this season in the Eredivisie, scoring 35 goals in just 33 games and must be considered if managers are serious about beating their mates.

Milos Krasic (Serbia - £3.1m): the CSKA Moscow winger is a target for a number of big clubs including Manchester United, against whom he shone in the Champions League. A pacy creator who could prove a fine acqusition for your fantasy team.

Gerad Pique (Spain - £3.8m): many managers may not consider the Barcelona centre-back but he's sure to be part of a Spain defence that will not leak too many goals. A little on the expensive side but merits inclusion.

James Milner (England - £3.1m): a modest price for a player who is certain to start for England. He scored seven goals and laid on 12 in the Premier League this season and there is no reason he cannot bring this to the world stage. His versatility could see him pick up clean sheets in defence too.

Yoan Gourcuff (£3.0m): has been handed a dubious tag that has proven to be a poisoned chalice for others (Bruno Cheyrou) but this lad is considered to be 'the new Zidane'. He'll start in the playmaker role and has some good strikers at his disposal, so expect assist points.

Per Mertesacker (Germany - £3.2m): the young Werder Bremen centre-half has become a favourite of Joachim Löw's, and with Germany's pedigree at World Cup finals he is someone you can hang your hat on.

What do you think? Which player's reputation is about to get bigger?
