Prior to joining Trabzonspor in 2008, Cameroon's talisman was an itinerant, playing for Metz, Salernitana, Liverpool, West Ham, Cologne, Lens, and Galatasaray.
In Istanbul he formed a strong central defensive partnership with Stjepan Tomas at the heart of the defense, but struggled to cement a place in the team after an argument with then Galatasaray manager Eric Gerets during a league game.
Song apologised for the incident both publicly and privately but Gerets would not relent. With the arrival of coachKarl-Heinz Feldkamp Song once again become a vital member of the squad but lost his enthusiasm.
Aged 33, the fire has been rekindled in Trabzon; Song is nicknamed by the fans there "Big Chief". Cameroon must hope that he fulfils that star billing.
