David Beckham has said he will not retire after the World Cup in South Africa this summer.
It had been suggested the England midfielder would quit after the tournament in June and July, but Beckham, who helped AC Milan to a 4-0 win over Siena on Sunday, insists he will carry on.
“I’ve always said I’d love to carry on playing after the World Cup and that isn’t going to change,” he said.
Beckham is currently on loan at AC Milan from Los Angeles Galaxy. So far he has started three games since returning to San Siro and played all 90 minutes of Milan's 4-0 win over Siena on Sunday.
Meanwhile, France captain Thierry Henry’s handball in the World Cup play-off win over the Republic of Ireland will go under the microscope today when Fifa’s disciplinary panel assess the incident.
Two months to the day since his intervention secured the 1-1 draw that took France to South Africa and ended Ireland’s hopes, Henry will face up to the possibility of a fine or even a ban.
The disciplinary panel is likely to issue a symbolic penalty, as the rules do not explicitly address incidents of such a nature and a heavy punishment would create a significant precedent.
