South Korea’s 4-2 defeat at the hands of Zambia last weekend may have been the first in a number of training camp tests but coach Huh Jung-moo has warned his players that they have work to do.
The Taeguk Warriors arrived in South Africa at the start of the year to prepare for matches against Argentina, Greece and Nigeria at the 2010 World Cup in June.
The Zambia defeat was a wake-up call for the 2002 World Cup semi-finalists who are looking for the right combination in attack.
Coach Huh had a special warning for the attackers.
With star striker Park Chu-young busy with AS Monaco commitments in Europe, coach Huh is trying to cast his net far and wide.
“We are continuing to evaluate candidates to fill the striker position, but if the current group of players fail to meet expectations in the friendly matches leading up to the World Cup, we will have to do without them,” Huh told the Korean media on Tuesday.
“Lee Dong-gook, Kim Shin-wook and Ha Tae-gyun are the players who are capable of filling the position.”
On Tuesday evening, South Korea drew 0-0 with local club Platinum Stars in Rustenburg.
