Loew hoping his cardy can give Spain the blues

Blue is the colour for Germany coach Joachim Loew.

And that's the way it will stay while side keep producing stunning four-goal shows.

Loew's coaching staff have insisted that he does not change the ‘lucky’ sweater he sported during the routs of England and Argentina.

And he's not allowed to wash it either.

“I'm not superstitious,? Loew insisted. “But the other coaching staff said I should be wearing the sweater now because every time I wear it we score four goals.

“I am not even allowed to wash it now, so I think I will have to wear it again against Spain.”

Loew's V-neck sweater may make him look like an extra from The Prisoner - but no-one is questioning his coaching ability.

He completely outwitted Fabio Capello and Diego Maradona in taking Germany to the last four, where they take on Spain in Durban tomorrow.

“I've seen a lot of international football, I have soaked it all up and taken away many aspects,” he said last night.

“In England the tempo is incredible and something to be emulated. In Spain, there is the free-flowing style, technique and skill and you can see that’s something that is second nature to them, even to their youth teams.

“In Spain the game is not just played or worked (at) but celebrated. It impresses me how easy it looks even though, of course, it isn't easy at all. I like combination passing football and that is what I work towards.”
