Disharmony in France camp in South Africa is not new at the World Cup.

2006 (France): Gregory Coupet was unhappy at Fabien Barthez being made France's goalkeeper and packed his bags. He was eventually persuaded to stay with the squad, with Raymond Domenech saying: "He lost his head, that happens."

2002 (Republic of Ireland): Roy Keane felt the team's chances had been compromised by the quality of the facilities and preparation. He shared his thoughts with manager Mick McCarthy and the rest of the squad before flying home to take his dog, Triggs, for a walk.

1982 (France): Jean-Francois Larios left the France camp after rumours surfaced that he was having an affair with the wife of Michel Platini. France lost in the semi-finals to Germany.

1994 (Holland): The Dutch have a long history of dressing-room unrest, but perhaps the most spectacular was Ruud Gullit ending his international career by walking out of a pre-World Cup training camp following disagreements with manager Dick Advocaat. Holland lost to Brazil in the quarter-finals.

2002 (Slovenia): Zlatko Zahovic gave coach Srecko Katanec a piece of his mind for substituting him in their opening match against Spain and was promptly sent home.

1994 (Germany): As Germany laboured to victory against South Korea, they were jeered by sections of their owns fans. Stefan Effenberg responded by raising his middle finger in their direction as he was substituted. He was dropped by Berti Vogts for the rest of the World Cup.

1998 (England): Paul Gascoigne reacted to being told he would not be in the 1998 England squad by kicking in a door, turning over a table and smashing a vase. He was given a Valium tablet to help him calm down.

2002 (Denmark): Jesper Gronkjaer and Stig Tofting had a training ground brawl that was witnessed by the Danish press. It was apparently prompted by Tofting dropping some ice-cubes down his team-mate's shorts.
