England in eighth as Brazil top Fifa rankings ahead of World Cup 2010

• Portugal in third; hosts South Africa are number 83

Brazil will head to the 2010 World Cup as the No1 team, according to the latest Fifa rankings.

The five-time world champions retained top spot ahead of the European champions Spain in today's release of the final monthly rankings before the tournament starts on 11 June.

Portugal are third followed by Holland and the world champions Italy. Germany are sixth, edging Argentina and England, while France moves up one to No9, trading places with Croatia.

The United States, No14, head the three World Cup qualifiers from Concacaf while the other teams in England's group, Slovenia and Algeria, are at No25 and No30 respectively.

Cameroon, at No19, are best of the six African teams while Australia, No20, leads Asia's four qualifiers. The hosts, South Africa, are No83, and at No105, North Korea are the lowest-ranked qualifiers.
